Suwannaphum Rice is a rice manufacturing company with both domestic and international markets. Every year, the process leaves behind an enormous mountain of damaged rice sacks from misaligned printing, or sealing that fail to meet the standard. Usually these sacks are incinerated, but the company has since recognized the negative effects on the environment, especially air pollution. The damaged sacks are then stored and sorted according to their sizes and colors. Due to their durability, strength, toughness, and beautiful colors, Suwannaphum Rice hatches a plan to repurpose them into items of practicality and longevity, promoting environmental conservation.
The KHAO bag is made from faulty rice sacks from the Suwannaphum Rice Factory. Since these sacks can longer be used to pack rice for customers, they can be turned into a good starting material because of their durability. After sorting them according to the colors, they are made into bags via a semi-industrial process while adding strength in the folds with extra weavings. Its large size caters to heavy duty usage such as a visit to the grocery where plastic bags are becoming a taboo. Each bag is unique from the individual patterns and colors of the rice sack it was made from.
